Where do you get ideas for inventions?

Improve the existing things.

11     If you can improve upon a thing that already exists, you are making the invention happen. If you’re really creative and good at engineering, you could try inventing a new car that saves more energy and helps protect the Earth.

    12

There are all kinds of problems in your daily life, such as forgetting to bring the keys, losing the phones and so on.     13     However, you can think of ways to solve them. While it’s possible to come up with the problem you’re going to solve after you have an idea for an invention, it’s much easier to identify the problem first.

Keep an open mind.

Let your ideas flow freely, and don’t write a possible product off just because it’s a little strange. Some of the best ideas are developed accidentally.     14     For example, Thomas Edison tried 2000 different materials before he made the light bulb. Some people asked him to give up the experiments.     15

A.They usually drive you crazy.

B.So treat your failures like progress.

C.Think about where your talents lie.

D.Inventions don’t need to be totally new ideas.

E.Think about the problems.

In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, which is a way to organize information on the Internet.     19

You may like to run.     22     Make sure you have the right shoes. Some people like to run on roads, but they must watch out for cars.

Walking is good exercise. You may take a long walk in the park. It’s more fun if you don’t go alone.     23     You two may have a great time.

Some people like to swim.     24     If you like this kind of exercise, make sure that someone is watching you. You must always take care when you are in the water. Jumping a rope(跳绳)or riding a bike is also good exercise. There are many other kinds of exercise. Find out what you like.     25     Some people often do exercise, and they can help you. Everyone worries.    81    Whether your worries are big or small, you can take these three steps to deal with your worries:

  1. Try to find out what you’re worried about. Sometimes, you will know what you’re worried about. Other times, you might not. Try to find it out first; if you can’t, you can ask for help.
  2. Think of ways to make it better. 82  Sitting there worrying is no fun and it won’t solve your problem. Grades at school are often top worries for kids. If you’re worried about grades, ask yourself these questions:

※ Why are grades important?    83

※ How do I get ready for class? Do I go over my notes even when there isn’t a test?

※ Do I have a good place to do my homework?

※ Have I tried different ways of studying?

If your worry is about a fight you had with a friend, you might write down all the things you could do—write a note to him or her, invite him or her to a basketball game, say sorry to him or her, etc.    84

  1. Ask for help. When you’re worried, it can help to find someone to talk to. 85 .

A.What do grades mean to me?

B.Once you have a list of things you could do, you can choose the one that gets your friends back.
