Hello, this is your gardening adviser.

Now, just as our garden are at their most colourful, and most productive time, what do we do? We’ll go off on holiday. What I suggest you do is this: invite a friend or neighbour to help you. You can ask him to water the plants in the greenhouse until you return, but first make sure that he knows how to do it. What he should not do is throw water over the leaves of the plants themselves, because if he does that, it will invite diseases. Also for the same reason, ask him if he can possibly water in the morning, rather than in the evening.

If you haven’t got a greenhouse, there is one safe and easy way to keep the plants well when you are away, and this is how you do it. Place six-inch-deep newspapers in the bottom of the bath. Yes, the bath! Turn the tap on and keep the water running until the papers are all wet. Now put the flower pots(花盆)to stand on the wet paper, go off on holiday, and they should be alive and well when you return in two weeks’ time.

Thank you for calling. Goodbye and good gardening!

A.holiday.         B.health.                 C.bathing.               D.gardening.

A.Pouring water to prevent diseases.      B.Watering the plant in the morning.

C.Watering the plants in the evening.      D.Throwing water over the leaves of the plants.

A.To attract the listeners’ attention.

B.To advise the listeners’ to buy beautiful baths.

C.To make sure the listeners understand him clearly.

D.To remove the listeners’ surprise when they hear this.

39.What is not needed if you want to use the bath to keep the plants well?

A.Place newspapers in the bottom of the bath.

B.Clean the bath.

C.Turn on the tap and keep the water running for a while.

D.Put the flower pots to stand on the wet paper.

40.What is the speaker like?

Connecting with Nature

How do you feel when you hear birds singing freely in the trees? What’s your feeling when you see butterflies dancing slowly and lightly in the wind? Whether you love researching the outdoors or watching far away, getting close to nature can keep your mind away from your worries and make you feel relaxed.

What is nature?

Nature means the world around us that is not man-made, including birds, mountains, trees, the sea and the stars. It’s a force and can control things like weather. We can find nature wherever we are and wherever we go—beaches, gardens, parks, rivers, and even unexpected places like cracks(裂缝) in the stones.

Why does nature make us feel good?

Spending time in nature makes our lives peaceful, joyful and wonderful. It takes us outdoors, gets us active and lets us care more about the environment. Even a little gift of nature can make us feel free and hopeful, such as breathing in fresh air, listening to the wind in the trees or standing at a mountain. Ralphie, who is 10, likes being close to nature on a bike with his family. He says, “It makes us feel happy and takes our mind off things because we have to pay attention. We are away from traffic and we hear more birdsong and see more wild animals.”

How can we feel closer to nature?

Feeling closer to nature is easy. We can build a connection with nature wherever we are using our senses. Try listening closely to birdsong, smelling flowers and feeling sand between our fingers. Paint a picture and take photos of the natural places that we like best. They may help us feel closer to the natural world. It’s important to try and connect with nature, notice its beauty and how it makes us feel.

根据“When the banana plants...their full height,”可知此处是指香蕉达到最大高度,此空应填及物动词reach,故选B。
