Liu Xiaomei, a common canteen (食堂) worker called “Aunt Liu,” from Yanbian University, gave a speech on June 20th, 2025. The speech made students cry and touched millions online.
Her words were simple but powerful: “No matter how busy you are, always eat well. Take care of yourselves. Don’t hide your sadness alone.” These motherly reminders made students think of the care they might get from their own families.
What made Liu’s speech special was its truthfulness. Unlike formal (正式的) talks, she spoke naturally in a local dialect (方言), breaking down the walls between staff and students. The university’s choice to invite a canteen worker to speak showed how important it is to recognize unsung (默默无闻的) heroes in education. To send off the graduates, Liu and her co-workers even made 15,000 dumplings—a traditional northern Chinese food that means good luck for their future.
This warm story quickly spread online, with people praising Liu’s honesty. Many said her words, without great promises, gave the most valuable life lessons: loving health, staying real, and finding warmth in small kindnesses. As one student wrote, “Aunt Liu’s love for us was in every bowl of noodles she served. Today, her words are our guide for the future.”
Liu’s speech didn’t just celebrate the end of school. It also reminded everyone that education is more than classes. It’s in the smiles of those who look after us, even in the simplest acts of care.

Sunshine does make people happier. Imagine how cheerful you are when it clears up after long cold rainy days. Let’s discover science behind sunlight.
Sunlight causes you to produce a chemical (化学物质) called serotonin (血清素). When you are exposed to sunlight, your body will make more serotonin. Higher levels of serotonin will keep you in good spirits. At night, when there is little or no light, your body produces another chemical﹣melatonin (褪黑激素). It helps your body relax and will make you feel tired, which can prepare you for a good night’s sleep. You should keep a good balance between these two chemicals.
However, for many people, it is hard to balance sunlight with darkness. People who stay indoors a lot may not get enough sunlight. The light in a house is usually about 100 times less than that outside on a sunny day. That’s why it is believed that those people should get outside in the sunshine. They can get some exercise, enjoy the fresh air and be happy, all at the same time.
There are places where it gets dark for a long time in the winter. People in those places are more likely to develop seasonal affective disorder (SAD). People with SAD usually go through bad experiences such as low energy and sadness. The most common treatment for those people is to sit under bright artificial (人工的) lights for some time.
The roles that sunshine plays in people’s life are more than those above. For example, your body produces Vitamin D (维生素D) from sunlight, which is important for being healthy. In fact, there is more science about sunlight for you to discover. So next time, when you notice the sunshine on your shoulder, take a moment to think, “Why do we love sunshine?”
23.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.What can help people to keep in good spirits.
B.How light influences people through chemicals.
C.Why melatonin can help people relax for a sleep.
D.Which chemical is thought to be more important.
24.Which of the following is an opinion (观点) according to the text?
A.There are places where it gets dark for a long time in the winter.
B.People who stay indoors a lot should get outside in the sunshine.
C.The light in a house is usually less than that outside on a sunny day.
D.People’s bodies produce something called Vitamin D from sunlight.
25.Jack is a person with SAD.How could he solve his problem according to the text?
A.By staying indoors a lot. B.By taking in more fresh air.
C.By doing some exercise. D.By using man﹣made lights
26.Why is the sentence “Why do we love sunshine?” written in the last paragraph?
A.To encourage readers to learn more about sunlight.
B.To advise readers to stay in houses for enough time.
C.To expect readers to realize the importance of Vitamin D.

There’s no cape for a superhero in real life, but everyone can be “an ‘everyday hero’” who solves small problems around them. Picture this: Students pass their schoolwork through different hands, from their group leader to the class representative (课代表), and finally to the teacher. It might not sound too difficult, but sometimes it can go wrong and take a lot of time.
To deal with this problem, Zhang Xirui from Shenzhen Gezhi Academy in Guangdong came up with a useful tool—a smart homework collection robot. This won him first prize in the 20th Guangdong Provincial Children’s Invention Awards.
The robot uses radio frequency identification (RFID射频识别) technology—a reader and a special tag (标签) that can share information without touching each other. This way, it can help find and know what it is looking for. Each student’s notebook has a special RFID tag with their name and the subject. Students only need to place their notebooks on the robot, and the machine “sees” the notebook, reads its tag and takes it out of the name list. “Teachers can check who hasn’t turned in homework by connecting their phones with the robot through WiFi,” the boy explained to Shenzhen Satellite TV.
The robot is the second-generation model made by Zhang. Now, he’s planning to develop a third-generation and hopes to use ultra-high-frequency (超高频) radio technology to read lots of RFID tags from far away. That means if you stick a special tag on your notebook, the robot can read the information from a thick stack (堆) of notebooks at once. Zhang believes this is the key to how artificial intelligence (人工智能) can make life easier for us.
Zhang dreams of becoming a scientist when he grows up. “I have tried making model airplanes and other scientific and creative projects. Inventing has brought me joy and happiness,” he said.
27.Why did Zhang Xirui invent the smart homework collection robot?
A.To help students pass schoolwork through different hands easily.
B.To make the homework collection easier and more convenient.
C.To remind the students who often forget to hand in their homework.
D.To attract students to do more scientific and creative projects.
