It was 8:00 a. m.. A group of college students got out of my car to make a video in the park. My job, as the driver, was to stay nearby and waited for them.

Since I could have several hours’ free time, I decided to go somewhere and do some reading. I found a beautiful bench against a wall. I noticed that a man was sitting on one end, but there was plenty of room for at least two more bodies. I walked over and sat beside him to have a rest.

I quickly discovered that the man would probably spent the night on the bench. His clothes were dirty, his hair was untidy, and soon I caught a bad smell of body sweat (汗水). I looked at him and smiled, and he smiled back.

We both sat there for over an hour peacefully. I was reading. He was watching the video making. He then stood up, walked in front of me and bowed (鞠躬). In a little shaky but clear voice, he said, “Thank you.”

I lifted my head.

“For what?” I questioned.

He looked at the ground as he said, “Usually people won’t even look at me, but you are willing to sit by me. ________”

I honestly didn’t know what to say as he turned and walked quickly around the corner. I was shocked. I didn’t do anything special. I just shared a bench.

The day finally came. Anne went to the performers’ dressing room. She suddenly felt shy. The other performers were from the city. But she was from the countryside.

A professional woman speaker also read a poem before Anne. The audience (观众) liked it very much. When it was Anne’s turn, she walked slowly onto the stage. But she had an attack of stage fear and she almost forgot everything at that moment. She stood there without speaking. Then, she saw Gilbert in the audience. Anne thought that he was laughing at her.

Actually, Gilbert was smiling because he was enjoying the evening. He thought Anne looked beautiful.

Anne did not want to fail in front of Gilbert. Her nervousness disappeared. She began her poem and she was confident.

When Anne finished, she won lots of applause from the audience. She felt shy as she walked back to her seat. A lady from the city talked to her, “That was wonderful. They’re encoring (要求加演) you!” Anne went back to the stage and read another poem.

After the concert, the lady from the city introduced Anne to everybody. They had dinner in a beautiful dining room. Diana and Jane were invited, too. Anne felt very pleased with the evening.

“What an evening! Anne, your poem was great. I was worried at first. You were better than that professional woman,” said Jane.

Today we can do everything with apps: pay bills, order food and shop for anything. Mobile technology means we can hold the world in our hands. However, when it comes to technology and health care, chances and challenges come together.

Let’s start with the ways to get health care. Telemedicine (远程医疗) can allow a patient to use technology to see the doctor online and get a diagnosis and instructions without leaving home.

There are many online patient websites, which have different kinds of interactions (互动) about our health needs. Setting a date with doctors and reading results have been achieved by technology already.

A whole new age of medical care seems possible to come in the future. But every coin has two sides. What might be on the other side of techno-health care?

First, sharing the details of one’s health requires trust, which takes time to build. This is certainly true in health care, where some of life’s best and worst moments have something to do with doctors. The human touch is also very important for patients and is impossible to be there over the smartphone.

Second, test results can be difficult to understand. When someone without a medical degree sees a result with no explanation on the website, there’s room for all kinds of terrible stories to form in their minds.

So how does medicine get along well with the new technology age? Some talented companies are working on it. There is medical equipment that can be used at home to send necessary signs and heart sounds through telemedicine. It seems possible that some companies will find a way to explain test results.

But what it will not achieve is the touch and the warmth of human interaction. Patients often need someone to listen to and care about their journey story, which will never be realized through a human-less technology. Technology should be a tool, but depending on it totally will probably have unexpected effects.

38.According to the passage, how does technology help health care?

A.It encourages patients to put their needs online.

B.It offers patients another way to get a diagnosis.

C.It allows more interaction between doctors and patients.

D.It provides patients a chance to explain test results.

39.What do you know about techno-health care from the passage?

A.Patient websites require trust from doctors. B.Talented companies can give medical advice.

C.Online results may cause worry for patients.      D.Medical equipment can send signs to patients.

40.The writer probably agrees that ________.

A.technology can deal with some unexpected effects

B.usual health care will be a challenge to telemedicine

C.techno-health care should consider about humans’ basic needs

D.it is difficult for patients to get used to the new technology age
