Altay, a place in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (新疆维吾尔自治区), has become a famous place for tourists because of a successful TV show named To the Wonder (《我的阿勒泰》). The show displays (展示) the area’s amazing natural beauty—mountains are covered with snow, lakes are very clear, and old villages are still in good condition. Altay is also a favourite place for skiing during the cold season.
In fact, Altay has always been famous for its beautiful nature, but it was not a popular place to visit before because it took a long time to travel there and the cost of staying in hotels was high. However, the popular TV show has made more people, especially young people, interested in visiting Altay.
Altay has different interesting things to see in summer and winter, so it can attract visitors all year. Many people advise the local government to keep making Altay better for tourists by improving the tourism and cultural attractions (景点), as well as making the place for tourists to stay and visit better.

Besides Ningxia, many cities in China make great efforts to protect wetlands. Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province, is known as a “city of a hundred lakes”. The city has five large wetland nature reserves. Tens of thousands of birds come to stay in winter.
Panjin in Liaoning Province is another surprising wetland city. In the past, the city has a lot of environmental problems because of oil production. But now in the wetlands by the sea, the seagrass turns red every autumn, creating beautiful “red beaches”.

Though oceans cover about 71 percent of the earth’s surface, there’s still a lot we don’t know about them. We only know about 20 percent of the seafloor and the remaining 80 percent is still a secret to us. Some scientists even think that humans haven’t yet discovered (发现) 91 percent of sea animals.
So why do we know so little about the deep sea? Well, getting to those depths (深处) is very difficult. It requires quite high technology. People built the first navigable submarine (可航行的潜水艇) in 1620, but it couldn’t go more than five meters below the surface. In fact, for a long time many scientists didn’t even think that there could be any life at depths greater than 550 meters. They also didn’t see much need to explore (探索) the deep sea. However, this changed in 1862. With the help of a digging machine, scientists discovered life as far down as 945 meters below sea level. Ten years later, they discovered around 4,700 species (物种) unknown before from the ocean floor.
Since then, people began to develop high technology to help explore the deep sea, including satellites (卫星). But why is it so difficult to explore the deep sea? Well, at greater depths it is freezing (极冷的), everything is completely dark, and the pressure (压力) can be very great.
Though we have the difficulties, it’s important to understand the seas. They help control (控制) the earth’s temperature and produce half of the oxygen in the air. They can also provide us with information about climate change. For our future, we have to really understand what is ongoing below the surface.

( )43.What does the underlined word “They” in the last paragraph refer to?
A.Sea animals. B.The seas. C.The satellites. D.Many scientists.

1.C
【详解】句意:下列哪个单词由三个音节?
考查音节。home[həʊm];flat[flæt];cinema[ˈsɪnəmə];enjoy[ɪnˈdʒɔɪ]。
根据“I will ask my uncle to fix it tomorrow.”可知,明天会让叔叔来修理电脑,所以此处是指电脑是有问题的,应用something,排除B和D;当形容词修饰复合不定代词时,形容词要放在复合不定代词的后面。故选C。
