Last year in early summer, I was walking up the hill to my house when I saw two birds, each about 60 centimetres tall, standing on the path. They didn’t seem to notice me until I was right in front of them and then they at once moved quickly into the bushes.
I was quite excited by the idea of two birds making a nest in my front yard, although I didn’t really expect them to because wild birds don’t usually make a nest so close. A few weeks later, the birds appeared again. I found them crouching beside a tree off to the side of the path. As I moved nearer to them, I imagined that they would run away like they did last time. But instead they stuck out their heads and made a threatening (威胁的) croaking sound. It seemed to warn me not to go any nearer.
I didn’t know why they were croaking at me until a short time later I made an amazing discovery: they had two small baby birds.
As I moved quietly towards the birds, careful not to make any sudden movements, they started their croaking again. They straightened their necks forward so they seemed longer and more threatening. The mother carefully crouched down over the chicks, and hid her babies well in her feathers.
I was watching them with respect when I suddenly tripped and fell to the ground. The birds took this as a threat and the father raced towards me, spreading his wings to protect the mother and the chicks while making himself appear larger.
I was sorry to have surprised them and left quickly. I was amazed by their fearless actions.
Their parental natural ability made them so brave. It is hard not to respect nature.
34.Why did the two birds not run away like they did last time?

36.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Wild birds often made a nest near my house.
B.Only the mother bird tried to protect the baby birds.
C.Not only the birds but also I had a heart full of love.
D.I knew why the birds croaked at me in the beginning.
37.In which way is this passage organized?
A.Time order. B.Space order. C.General to specific. D.Specific to general.

Educators worry about students turning to ChatGPT, the AI chatbot that can produce clear answers to difficult questions, to help them complete assignments. Many teachers don’t allow their students to use it in writing. But I am telling my students that they are free to use ChatGPT in their writing assignments.
To keep competitive throughout their lives, students need to learn how to use ChatGPT to produce valuable works. They need to learn to write well-organized articles with a mix of AI-generated text and traditional writing. Also professionals (专业人士) need to learn how to improve human creativity with AI.
Many students will be unable to refuse the temptation (诱惑) to seek AI help with their writing. And how would an educational institution enforce a ChatGPT ban (禁令)? While there are tools aimed at detecting text produced by AI, future forms of AI will get better at matching human writing—including copying the style of a particular person who is using it. It’s clear that AI writing tools will always be one step ahead of the tools to detect AI-generated text in the arms races.
Writing a good article from the beginning needs good logic. Writing is a skill worthy of a lot of respect, one which few of us ever master. But most students don’t seek to become professional writers. Instead, they are preparing for careers where they will write to communicate, explain, request and persuade.
When I was a middle and high school student in the late 1970s and early 1980s, I was told that professional success required good writing skills and the ability to perform long division (长除法) by hand. By the time I entered the professional workforce in the late 1980s, technology advances had left those skills outdated. Education culture can be very slow to change, as evidenced by the fact that many schools today still force children to learn long division—a task they will never have to perform anywhere outside school. With AI writing, educators should stay ahead of the development of technology instead of falling behind for tens of years.
42.Why does the author allow his students to use ChatGPT in writing?
A.To compete well in their future life.
B.To produce good writing as a writer.
C.To be creative professionals in future.
D.To improve the standards of traditional writing.
43.What can we infer from the third paragraph?
A.Banning AI effectively is impractical. B.Using ChatGPT may fail in the arms race.
C.Copying the style of human is AI’s aim. D.Refusing AI needs support from students.
44.What does writing mean for most students in the author’s opinion?
A.It is a kind of skill easy to master. B.It is a must to become professional writers.
C.It is a course to focus on thinking. D.It is a way to prepare for their future careers.
45.What does the author mean by mentioning long division by hand?
A.Students refuse to learn useless skills.
B.Education culture changes so quickly.
C.Educators should go ahead of technology.
D.AI writing helps students succeed professionally.

五、阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,计10分)
根据短文内容,回答下列问题。(不超过8个词)
They exist in every school. Some use words, and others use physical violence(暴力). No matter what the methods are, the result is the same: bullies make you feel bad and make going to school a lot more difficult. What can you do about them? Luckily, dealing with bullies is not as hard as you think. Just follow these simple steps, and there is a good chance you will survive the bullies at your school without getting hurt.
The first step to take when dealing with bullies is to understand them. Most bullies make others feel bad so they feel better about themselves. Their main goal is to make you upset so they feel in control. The best way to deal with this is to avoid them all together. Don’t walk near them, change your seat in class, or if they come up to you, walk away. If you can successfully ignore(对……不予理睬) a bully for a few days, you will probably be left alone.
When it is impossible to ignore the bully, you will have to take further steps. Bullies prefer to target kids who they think are weak and vulnerable. The next time you see a bully, pretend to feel very brave and confident. If the bully says something to you, say “Stop it!” in a strong voice and walk away. If you see a bully picking on someone else, do the same. Bullies normally do not like confrontation(对抗).
If they still pick on you, the next step is to report the bully to a teacher. Bullies have been around for a long time, so experienced teachers will know how to deal with them. The bully will get into trouble and the teacher will get ready to be on watch all the time.
Bullies can give you big trouble. However, if you act quickly, you can almost always prevent them from bothering(烦扰) you. Just remember to never get in a fight with a bully. Fighting will almost always make the situation worse. Be smart when dealing with bullies and you should survive without getting hurt!

参考答案
1.A
