知识点1：Festivals are a window to different cultures.   节日是不同文化的窗户。

The children are taught to respect different cultures. 孩子们受到的教育叫他们要尊重不同的文化。

知识点2：Many people think it’s a festival to remember a great poet.  许多人认为它是一个纪念一位伟大诗人的节日。P93

①it’s a festival to remember a great poet. 整个句子作为一个整体跟在think之后做宾语，所以是宾语从句。

②remember  v. 纪念；回想起；记得；记起；记住，把…牢记在心

remember to do sth 记得去做某事（这件事情还未做）

remember doing sth 记得做过某事（这件事情做过）

I remember posting the letter我记得把信寄出去了。

I remember to post the letter 我记得要去寄信。

③poet   n. 诗人 → poem   n. 诗

He reads the poem aloud.   他朗读了这首诗。

It was the book of a famous Danish poet.  这是一个著名的丹麦诗人的书。

知识点3： New Year is coming.  新年要来了。 P94

is coming现在进行时表将来：come, go, arrive, leave等瞬间动词，往往用现在进行时表将来。

I am arriving. 我马上到。

The bus is leaving in ten minutes. 公交车10分钟之后出发。

知识点4：Let’s see how people all over the world are celebrating it.  让我们看看全世界的人们正在如何庆祝它。 P94

①how people all over the world are celebrating it整个句子作为一个整体，跟在动词see之后，在整个主句中做宾语，因此是一个宾语从句。由特殊疑问词引导的宾语从句，必须用陈述句的语序。

②celebrate  v. 庆祝；庆贺→celebration  n. 庆典；庆祝活动

Nothing is too small to celebrate.  没有什么事情是小到不能庆祝的。

May I join in the celebration?   我能参加庆祝活动吗？

知识点5：Look at the man spreading salt on his doorstep.   看那个正把盐撒在他家门阶上的男人。 P94

①spread  v. 摊开，使散开；传播，散布；（使）蔓延，扩散，散开；涂；敷

The bird spread its wings.  鸟展开翅膀。

We hope to slow the spread of the disease.  我们希望能够减缓疾病的传播速度。

A smile spread slowly across her face.   微笑慢慢在她脸上绽开。

②look at sb doing sth  看着某人正在做某事

look at sb do sth 看某人经常做某事

The mother looks at the boy drawing carefully in the room. 妈妈看那个男孩正在房间里认真地画画呢。

The mother often looks at the boy draw carefully in the room. 妈妈经常看那个男孩在房间里认真地画画。

知识点6：People in Türkiye think salt will keep them from bad things in the coming year.  土耳其的人们认为盐会使他们在即将到来的一年里远离厄运。 P94

①salt will keep them from bad things in the coming year整个句子作为一个整体，跟在动词think之后，在整个主句中做宾语，因此是一个宾语从句。

②keep … from …    使…远离…    keep sb from doing sth = stop sb (from) doing sth 阻止某人做某事

keep sb doing sth 使某人一直做某事      keep doing sth 一直做某事

keep +adj 保持某种状态                keep sb. /sth. + adj. 使某人/某物保持…

My parents keep me from playing computer games too much.我的父母不让我玩太多电脑游戏。

Boys and girls, please keep the classroom tidy in school. 孩子们，在学校请保持教室整洁。

Don’t keep the tap running.不要让水龙头一直流。

知识点7：Isn’t that interesting?   那不是很有趣吗？ P94

一般疑问句的否定形式，在助动词后面加not，类似于汉语里的反问句。回答：

Yes, it is.（不，很有趣。）No,it isn’t.（是的，没趣），在英语表达中，一般不可以用yes,it isn’t 或no, it is 的表达形式。如果要表达和问句同样的观点，则和问句使用同样的肯定或否定表达。

Don’t you like picnics? 你不喜欢野餐吗？

Yes,I do（不，我喜欢。）  No, I don’t. （是的，我不喜欢。）

知识点8：Here in Greece, an old woman is hanging onions on her door.  在希腊这里，一位老妇人正在她的门上挂洋葱。 P94

hang   v. 悬挂，吊；垂下，垂落 →hung（过去式）

hang on坚持下去；不挂断；握住不放    hang out挂出；闲逛     hang up挂断电话；搁置，拖延

Where can we hang our clothes to dry? 我们该把衣物晾在哪里？

Hang on, I’ll just see if he’s here.  别挂电话，我这就看看他在不在。

We often hang out with our friends.   我们经常同朋友一起去闲逛。

知识点9：It’s a Greek tradition to welcome the new year.   这是一个希腊欢迎新年的传统。 P94

tradition   n.  传统；传统的信仰（或风俗）  →traditional  adj. 传统的；习俗的；惯例的

cultural tradition文化传统       by tradition照传统；根据口传

By tradition , children play tricks on 1 April.按照传统风俗，儿童在4月1日捣乱戏弄别人。

It’s traditional in America to eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day. 感恩节时吃火鸡是美国的传统。

知识点10：Onions are a symbol of good luck and health.  洋葱象征着好运与健康。  P94

symbol  n. 象征，符号；标志       a symbol of  ……的象征

Why is a pig used as a symbol of saving?  为什么猪被用作储蓄的象征？

People all over the world love pandas, and the panda has become a symbol of China. 全世界的人都喜欢熊猫，熊猫已经成为中国的象征。

知识点11：When the clock strikes 12, they jump off their chairs into the new year, in the hope of getting over any problem in the year ahead. 当钟敲响12下时，他们从椅子上跳下来进入新年，寄希望于克服来年的任何问题。 P94

④get over  克服；恢复

She can’t get over her shyness.   她无法克服羞怯心理。

⑤ahead  adv. 提前，预先；（时间、空间）向前面，在前面  

ahead of在…之前     go ahead前进；进行      ahead of time 提前

We will have a lot of hard work ahead. 我们前面还有很多艰苦工作要做。

wherever = no mater where  在任何地方，无论哪里

wish  v. 希望，盼望，祈求；祝愿    wish  n. 愿望；希望；心愿；祝愿

wish to do sth 希望做某事         wish sb to do sth 希望某人做某事    wish for 盼望，渴望

wish you every success一帆风顺    best wishes美好祝愿    make a wish欲望，企图；幻想

I wish to speak to the manager.  我想跟经理说话。

We wish you every success.  我们祝你万事如意。

It’s no use wishing for the impossible.企求不可能的事情是徒劳无益的。

①‌live、alive、living、lively‌这四个词都有“活的、有生命的”意思，但它们在用法和含义上有所不同。

All of us have to take action to protect our living environment.我们大家都必须采取行动来保护我们的生活环境。

She does not know if he is alive or dead.  她不知道他是活还是死。

The club has live music most nights.该俱乐部大多数晚上有现场演奏的音乐。

at the moment 此刻；当时                  for a moment片刻，一会儿；暂时

知识点16：Now some people are dancing to the music.   现在一些人正在随着音乐跳舞。P98

知识点17：That sounds like fun.   那听起来很有趣。P98

sound  系动词，听起来，其后一般跟形容词， sound like 听起来像，其后一般跟名词。

She didn’t sound surprised when I told her the news.我把消息告诉她时，她好像并不感到惊讶。

He didn’t sound like his usual happy self.  他听起来不像平常那个乐天派了。

知识点18：Both Violet and William have a very wonderful voice. 维奥莱特和威廉都有一副好嗓子。P99

①both…and…两者都（谓语动词一般用复数） not only…but also 不但……而且（谓语动词适用就近原则）

Both Tom and his sister get a present on Children’s Day. 儿童节Tom和他的姐姐都得到了一个礼物。

= Not only Tom but also his sister gets a present on Children’s Day. 

②voice  n. 嗓音；说话声；歌唱声    v. 表示，表达，吐露（感情或意见）

Her voice was surprisingly calm.    她的声音出人意料地平静。

I could hear voices in the next room. 我能听到隔壁说话的声音。

A number of parents voiced worry about their children’s safety. 一些家长对他们子女的安全表示了担心。

知识点23：We prepare some dishes with special meanings, like jiaozi and niangao.  我们准备一些有特殊的意义的菜肴，如饺子和年糕。P102

①prepare   v. 使做好准备；把…预备好；预备（饭菜）；做（饭）→preparation  n. 准备，预备

prepare to do sth 准备做某事   prepare for sth 为……做准备    make preparations for为…做准备
