How do you feel about nature? After spending hours indoors, do you feel better when you visit your local park? Most people think that nature is good for our bodies and brains. However, humans are spending more time inside and less time outside. For example, the number of visitors to Canada’s national parks is getting lower every year. And in countries such as the USA, only 10% of teenagers spend time outside every day. Many doctors feel that this is a problem in the twenty—first century.
As a result, some doctors are studying the connection between nature and health: one example of this is the work of Dr Matilda in Sweden. The doctor gave people a maths test.During the test, their heart rates (心率) were fast. After the test, one group of people sat in a 3D—virtual—reality (虚拟现实) room for fifteen minutes with pictures and sounds of nature.Their heart rates were slower than people’s in the other group.
The virtual touch with nature helped them feel more relaxed.Another good example of how nature is good for health comes from Canada. In Toronto, researchers studied 31,000 people living in the city.In general, they found that healthier people lived near parks.
Because of studies like these, some countries and cities want nature to be part of people’s everyday life.In Dubai (迪拜), for example, there are plans for a new shopping mall with a large garden so shoppers can relax outside with trees, plants and water. In Switzerland, “forest schools” are popular.Schoolchildren study their subjects in the forests and do lots of exercise outside. And South Korea (韩国) is another good example: it has new forests near its cities and around 13 million people visit these forests every year.So after building cities for so long, perhaps it’s now time to start rebuilding nature.

According to the report, the number or teens who hardly read has gone up from 8 percent to 25 percent today. The report data shows that kids’ reading ability remains almost the same. However, the amount of reading time has fallen, from about an hour every day to half an hour.

People usually burn or bury(埋)it.On the other hand, we receive waste from some developed countries. We get useful materials from it.What about the useless part? Still burned or buried. But is it a proper way?
Waste pollutes the environment, harms people’s health and causes animals to die.It also gets in the way of green and sustainable development. We can’t make money at the cost of the environment. We should leave clean water and green mountains to our next generations(一代人).
China is getting really serious about waste now.
We are taking less waste from developed countries. From January 2018, China started to stop 24 kinds of waste coming into our country. And more laws and rules about dealing with waste have been made.Anyone who breaks the law will be punished.
China also tries to put waste into good use.One example is the waste electricity factories. They burn waste to make electricity in a green way.No harmful gases or water will get into the environment.
The Chinese government is encouraging people to do waste sorting(分类).Cities like Shanghai, Chongqing and Beijing have their own sorting systems.More will join them soon.As President Xi Jinping said during a visit to Shanghai, waste sorting is a new fashion(时尚).More and more people are forming the habit of separating their waste.

The opening of the Beijing—Zhangjiakou high-speed railway took place in December, 2019.The railway is a milestone in China’s railway development because it has used the latest technologies in railway building.
The railway is 174 kilometers long, with 10 stations. The stations are managed by one control center, which is described by China Railway Beijing Group — also known as CR Bejing — as an “intelligent (智能的) brain”.The center collects and shares the stations’ real-time information.“With the information, the workers in the center can control the stations’ lighting and temperature, monitor (监测) trains’ operation and deal with emergencies(紧急情况).” said Zhu Dianping, from CR Beiing.
Zhu said some trains on the Bejing—Zhangjiakou line are “smart” as they provide 5G signals and wireless charging (无线充电) for passengers, as well as intelligent lighting. These trains can start and stop, open and close doors, and deal with emergencies themselves.
All the ten stations provide e-ticket services.Travelers who have bought tickets online can use their ID cards instead of waiting in line for paper tickets.
At Qinghe Railway Station in Beijing, China’s first visual remote ticket vending machine (远程可视售票机) has been installed (安装) to help passengers who are not able to afford tickets online.Passengers keep in touch with the conductor through the machine and buy tickets according to video instructions.

I think there are several reasons that suggest developing robots is a waste of money.
In San Diego recently $325,000 was spent on inventing a robotic squirrel to do some scientific experiments. The research proved that squirrels are able to scare away snakes by wagging (摇动) their tails.Do you need a robotic squirrel to work this out?
What about AIBO, a robotic pet, developed in Japan? In Japanese aibou means “buddy”.These pets have been developed at huge cost mainly to provide entertainment. They’ve been used in movies and music videos.Universities have used them for educational purposes. However, in 2006 the company stopped producing these robotic pets in order to save money. Was it worth a lot of money?
Then there’s NAO, a robot which has been developed by a French company. Its main purpose is to make life easier for humans. It speaks 19 languages and has its own personality. It can tell children a story, help in the classroom or the home, or act as a companion to those people who need someone to be with.A fully developed one costs $16,000.Is that value for money? Who can afford it anyway?
There may be good reasons why it is worth developing robots, but so far I haven’t thought of any.

A.公司 B.机构 C.对手 D.伙伴

A.It can help bring people a lot of fun. B.It has advantages in many ways.
C.It may be useful but costs too much. D.It is worth a great deal of money.

Is there a connection between music and language? According to recent studies, the answer is yes: Music helps develop certain language abilities in the brain.
A study from Northwestern University shows that playing a musical instrument can improve a person’s hearing ability. As a part of the study, two groups of people listened to a person talking in a noisy room. The people in the first group were musicians, while those in the second group had no musical training. The musicians were found to be able to hear the talking person more clearly.
Musicians hear better, says study leader Nina Kraus, because they learn to pay attention to certain sounds. For example, when the violinists play in an orchestra(管弦乐队), they must listen closely to what they are playing and ignore(忽视)the other sounds. In this way, musicians can hear certain sounds better, even in a room with lots of noise.
Gotfried Schlaug, a doctor at Harvard Medical School, works with stroke(中风)patients.
Because of their illness, these people cannot say their names, addresses, or other information normally However, they can till sing.Dr.Schlaug was surprised to find singing words helped his patients finally speak. Why does this work? Schlaug isn’t sure.Music seems to be able to make different parts of the brain active, including the bad parts. In some way, this helps patients use those parts of the brain again.
So music is not only enjoyable, but also good for us in many other ways.Playing an instrument or singing, says Nina Kraus, can help us do better in school and keep our brain sharp as we get older.
24.What were the people in the first group asked to do in the study of Northwestern University?
A.Listen to different kinds of music. B.Make some noise in an empty room.
C.Give the second group musical training. D.Find out what the talking person was saying.
25.The writer uses the example of violinists in Paragraph 3 to explain________.
A.how musicians play in an orchestra B.how musicians ignore certain sounds
C.why musicians have better hearing ability D.why musicians are not afraid of loud noise
26.Gottfried Schlaug helps his stroke patients speak by________.
A.playing music for them B.getting them to sing words
C.teaching them to play instruments D.joining the bad parts of their brain
27.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To introduce different ways of playing music.
B.To give some advice about making our brain active.
C.To show the relationship between music and language abilities.
D.To share the results of recent studies on treating stroke patients.
