专题05 完形填空

一、完形填空,15空版,10篇

My husband and I were taking a post-dinner walk in a nearby parking lot, when we saw a man breaking something with a rock. We kept     1     him as we walked around the parking lot and talked between ourselves about what he might be doing. I thought he was breaking stones to make sand, but why would he do that?

2    , we decided to go up and speak to him. He was breaking up pieces of leftover bread that he had collected from his housemates to make     3     for the birds that come there every morning. The large pieces of bread would be     4     for the birds to eat, so he ground(研磨)them into a fine powder(粉末)with the rock.

It was moving to hear that he’s been doing this every     5    , by himself, for the last three or four years. What moved us more was that he was surprised we were even    6    in this, since for him it wasn’t a big deal. Every night, he     7     leftover bread from his housemates. He then spends the next one or two     8     in the parking lot crushing(压碎)each piece of bread and making a neat pile for the birds, which he says will be gone by the next evening. He also     9     fresh water and adds birdseed(鸟食)on top of the pile.

When we asked him why he does this act of service, he shrugged and said, “It’s just something      10      I do so that the leftover bread doesn’t go into the trash(垃圾)and the birds get food.”

We shared his story with the hope that it might remind us to be more careful with our leftover food. Perhaps it might inspire(启迪)someone to do something similar in their own area.
