Recently cunchao has become a hot topic in China!

Rongjiang is a small county (县) in Guizhou Province, with a population of 385,000. However, it has welcomed over 1 million tourists since the village football tournament (联赛) or cunchao in Chinese, began on May 13.

The tournament is organized by the county’s football association (协会), with 20 teams competing. The players include farmers, small business owners, construction workers and taxi drivers. When talking about basketball, you may think of NBA or CBA．But have you heard of VBA? It means basketball games organized by local people in the countryside, with players being locals.

VBA got popular online across China in the summer of 2022 because of the basketball games held in Taipan Village, Guizhou Province. Recently, the basketball game “Village BA” was held in Taipan Village in Taijiang County, Guizhou Province. It was held by local villagers and most players came from villages. It also attracted people from all over the country to cheer for the players.
