” Hey, want to do something great with old soil drink cans? ”
” Sure, let’s use them to go to the Moon! ”
I know that sounds crazy. After all, you can’t build a rocket(火箭)from old cans. However, if you recycle enough cans, you can save as much energy as there is inside a real rocket.Enough to reach the Moon!
As we all know, soft drink cans are made of aluminum.Getting aluminum needs quite a lot of energy because aluminum ore(铝矿石)is deep under the ground.Making soft drink cans needs about 1% of all the electricity(电力)used in the USA.Americans use more than 100 billion soft drink cans every year. That’s 200, 000 cans every minute.
In fact, we can do better by recycling. It takes lots of energy to get new aluminum while it takes very little to turn used soft drink cans into new ones. With the energy to make just one new can from aluminum ore, we can make 20 by recycling. At present.Americans recycle about 50% of all the used cans.Old cans become new ones in about 60 days.
About 100, 000 aluminum cans get recycled every minute in the USA.In 90 minutes, the energy saved by recycling is as much as that in 500 tons of coal. What can we do with that much energy? Can we reach the moon? It does sound crazy.Anyway, the rocket is the most powerful machine ever built. But if our rocket travels fast enough, it will manage to leave the Earth and reach the Moon.We just need enough energy.Amazingly, the energy saved by recycling old soft drink cans is more than enough to send a rocket to the Moon. And we don’t even need a whole year of recycling—just 90 minutes of recycling works.
Of course, we wouldn’t really use all this energy to send rockets to the Moon.Actually, we can use the energy saved by recycling in our daily life, like warming homes and running businesses. At the same time, it can help reduce harmful greenhouse gases.
Still, it’s a fantastic way to think about recycling.Recycling and rockets seem very different.Yet each time you recycle an empty soft drink can, it’s almost like you’re helping with a spaceshot.

A.give us an example B.introduce the topic of the passage

” Are you feeling ill, Toad? What’s the matter?” T don’t know ...I think my heart...But you mustn’t be sad, Ratty.Dear, kind friend ...I’ve enjoyed knowing you so much ...hate to say goodbye …”Toad’s whisper became slower and slower, and then stopped. The Rat felt very worried.Toad lay so still and quiet一perhaps he was really ill.
The Rat wished that the other two were not so far away. What should he do? He looked again at the still and silent Toad and decided that he must get the doctor at once.He hurried out, carefully locking the door behind him, and ran off to the village as fast as he could.
