Recently a university in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province has set up facial recognition systems（人脸识别系统）in the classrooms to watch students’ behavior. As a result, it has caused a big discussion on the Internet.

China Pharmaceutical University put the systems in two test classrooms as well as school gates, dormitory entrances（宿舍入口）, the library and laboratory buildings.

According to Xu Jianzhen, director of the university’s library and information center, the systems will help teachers check if students are in class and watch what they are doing during the lectures.

“In the past, some students were absent from class after teachers took attendance（考勤）or asked other students to answer “Present!” for them. So it was difficult to take control of them. Now with facial recognition, that would no longer be a problem,” he said.

“As soon as you enter the classroom, the camera will watch you all the way through and record how long you put down your head, whether you’re playing with a smartphone, you’re sleeping or you’re reading other books,” he addeD、

Zhang Guimei, the principal of Huaping High School for Girls, has been given the title “Role Model of the Times” for helping girls from poor families.

The school was the first high school in the country to provide free education for girls who would otherwise have been unable to continue their studies after completing their nine years of education.

Zhang moved to Lijiang at the age of 17 to teach in the middle school in Huaping County. Once, she got badly ill but had no money for the treatment（治疗）.
